Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate the Rangatira 60th Anniversary. It was a wonderful evening with some great stories told from past presidents and foundation members.

The Whakapapa Sky Waka opened early this month and we are now all getting excited for the season to begin with the Rangatira Express open for skiing & riding at Whakapapa. The Parklane, Movenpick and  Giant are open with skiing down Upper Freeway through Boneyard at Turoa.

There are some great events being held at Mt Ruapehu for the school holidays (check out the details below). This week could bring some snow which means the second week of the holidays could turn into an EPIC one. So why not head down for a couple of days of fun?

We wish to welcome our custodians for this season. At Iwikau we have Emily who has recently come back to NZ from overseas. As a qualified Snowboard instructor she was keen to get back for an NZ winter.

We also welcome back Justin Bishop, this year as the Ohakune custodian. We know he'll be keeping the Ohakune lodge spick and span and cooking up a storm like usual!!

Congratulations to Sam Bailey who won gold at the Auckland secondary schools freestyle comp at SnowPlanet recently. Awesome work!!

Updates recently came out from RAL in relation to parking at Whakapapa. Pleaase read and take not of hte following:

  1. Iwikau Carpark 1 – Available for clubbie overnight parking
  2. Iwikau Carparks 2 to 10 – Available for day visitor parking.  Where it is practical to do so, RAL will have gates at the entrances that are closed between the hours of 6.00 pm and 6.00 am.  This is to minimise adhoc parking, maximise car parking opportunities and safe snow clearing in each carpark.
  3. RAL’s carparking activities will stop once carpark 10 is full on those bluebird days.  No carparking below carpark 10 will occur this winter season.
  4. Once the carparks are full to carpark 10, the Bruce Road will be closed for safety reasons.
  5. Clubbies will be able to access the Bruce Road during the closure periods, only if they produce their RAL premium carpark pass to the traffic management contractors.
  6. There will be ‘No Drop Offs’.

DOC’s Roading contractors need to have a set of consistent guidelines and treat everyone equally whether they are DOC staff, clubbie’s or general public.  A common excuse from clubbies was they had a private car park at Iwikau, which is not accurate.

If you have any questions on parking at Iwikau, feel free to contact RAL.

Ruapehu has plenty of free activities and events to keep the kids entertained while on and off the slopes this school holidays. Check out the activities calendar below to see what is going on at both Whakapapa and Tūroa.
